Varicose and spider veins are more than just an unsightly nuisance. They may be indicators of bigger problems with the overall health of your vascular system that can worsen, if left untreated.
What happens during a vein screening?
A vein screening that uses state-of-the-art technology is an important first step in identifying unhealthy veins and determining the best possible treatment. When you attend a free screening, your vein care specialist will measure your vein function and show you where you have weakened vein valves or blockages. This non-invasive procedure creates a map to identify exactly which vessels need treatment in order to see long-lasting, positive results.
The screening focuses primarily on the lower extremities to determine if there are signs of chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins or other vein problems. It can also help by determining your level of risk associated with developing vein problems in the future. Future risk is determined by a number of factors including your current vein health, age, medication use, family and personal history of vein problems.
Vein screenings could save your life
Under-functioning veins cause a backflow of blood to pool in your lower legs, which causes pressure to build up. This pressure leads to pain and swelling that can worsen over time and, in some cases, become life threatening if left untreated.
Vein screenings are extremely beneficial for early detection. The earlier vein problems are identified, the better chance you have toward complete recovery.

Before the screening begins, you will be asked to sign a participant release form. This form gives medical personnel permission to administer the screening. A typical vein screening lasts between 15 and 20 minutes. At the conclusion of the screening, you will be given a complete report of our findings to share with your primary care physician.
